Holidays are a difficult time for alot of folks, and a little bit of cheer can go a long way. This is the second year that ReFuse OKC ( https://www.facebook.com/refuseokc/ ) has teamed up with OKC Flea (http://okcflea.com/) to provide a make and create area where folks attending the market design holiday ornaments out of donated and reclaimed materials to decorate trees. This year we also added holiday card making to the event and the cards and trees were donated to four of the Oklahoma City Housing Authority's( http://www.ochanet.org/) Senior Living Centers to brighten up their lobbies. In the midst of planning it all the Director of OKC Flea generously donated gift bags filled with gifts for Senior Residents and four beautiful 6 foot tall trees. Deluxe Market (http://www.deluxeok.net/) donated awesome Oklahoma made gifts too! So many generous people donated their ornaments, cards, and art supplies and great volunteers came to the OKC Public Farmer's Market for the event to facilitate people making tree ornaments and writing out messages of cheer on the cards! Every age of folk was a part of this event, and it was wonderful watching people meet each other and share their arting skills and laugh together while doing something fun for folks they might never meet. Everyone at the Senior Centers was happy and touched by the trees and gifts and spent time setting up the cards in their lobbies, reading the messages and tearing up in joy over the generosity of people. One resident Mister Kenneth said, "Usually I'm forgotten at Christmas, but this here is nice and makes me feel good." Another resident said the tree was beautiful and that they only had one wish this year now: to have a new and better mobile chair. That resident was aptly named "Joy" and here is a link to Joy's gofundme page: https://www.gofundme.com/my-new-chairs . Happy Holidays ya'll! And thank you for your generous hearts!
